  1. This Changes Everything

The Indianapolis Colts and quarterback, Andrew Luck, agreed to a massive contract yesterday that could pay the young star $140 million over the next six years, with a guarantee of $87 million. We know this is outrageous money, but the deal seems to make sense when considering he’s the key to the Colts’ future success and has already had an impressive career. Although exciting for everyone involved, this is a huge commitment with tremendous expectations. Indy Star columnist Gregg Doyel wrote, “The money changes everything. We can say it doesn’t, but let’s…

  2. Keep Fighting

Pat Summitt was one of the greatest coaches in sports history. She won more games than any other NCAA Division l basketball coach (male or female) during her 38 years as the head coach of the University of Tennessee women’s basketball team.  Coach Summitt, 64, died on June 28th after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, but her impact and legacy will live on for many years to come. In reading through some of her inspiring quotes, this one stood out to me: “Quit? Quit? We keep score in life because it…

  3. That Fumble Won’t Define Me

The NFL has a few more weeks before they officially begin training camp and start the 2016 season. For a few players, the memories of the last game played are not very positive. Two players, in particular, critically contributed to their team’s playoff loss: Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Fitzgerald Toussaint, and Vikings kicker, Blair Walsh. Toussaint fumbled in the 4th quarter of their game against the Denver Broncos, costing them dearly. But this is what Toussaint now has to say about the play: “That [fumble] doesn’t define me as a player nor does it…

  4. The Inactive QB

In the upcoming NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most intriguing quarterback situations. They have returning starter, Sam Bradford; high-priced backup, Chase Daniel; and 2nd overall draft pick, Carson Wentz. Of course, all three quarterbacks want to play and get their opportunity to start, but most likely only two of them will be suited up and available for games. Jimmy Kempski, of Philly Voice, reports that there’s a very good chance Wentz won’t be active on game days. This means that one of the top draft picks…

  5. “The Draft Room”

The NBA Draft took place last night, and as always, was filled with surprising picks, impactful trades, and memorable moments. As fun and nerve-racking as it is for the players waiting to be drafted, I can only imagine what teams “on the clock” deciding who to choose must actually experience. One of my dreams as a sports fan is to be in the draft room of one of the franchises, and have the opportunity to witness what really takes place. I think about the phone calls they are making and…

  6. NBA Draft Rumors and Lies

Tonight is the NBA Draft and the past few months have been filled with speculation. There are mock drafts, potential trades on the table, the media, agents, college coaches, and NBA scouts all providing information that factor into what might happen tonight. Leading up to the actual draft, it’s hard to know what is true and what is misleading. Many of the players hear rumors about a particular team taking them or that they are one of the top picks. Unfortunately, many times it ends up being just a lie….

  7. Deserving a Championship?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are taking over the city today with their championship parade. Their fans have been hoping and waiting for this moment for a long time. Considering their city’s difficult sports history, they probably appreciate their team’s accomplishment more than most fans do. Their sports pain and championship drought have been well documented. I admit, years ago I loved the idea of LeBron returning to Cleveland and believed that bringing a championship to his home state would be one of the greatest sports stories in a long time. The…

  8. Not the Same Dustin

On Sunday, Dustin Johnson won the U.S. Open in controversial fashion. As he was trying to secure the win, a potential penalty stroke was hanging over his head. After being assessed, however, he still secured his first major championship by 3 strokes – a great accomplishment when you consider his history and circumstances. During last year’s U.S. Open, Johnson 3-putted on the 18th hole and ended up losing to Jordan Spieth. He led the 2010 U.S. Open by three strokes through three rounds, but finished with a score of 82…

  9. Promises

After being down 3-1 in the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavs won three straight, including Game 7 last night, to become the Champs. Today’s headlines read: “LeBron James Fulfills Promise to Bring a Title to Cleveland” and ”Cleveland Rocks: Cavaliers Deliver on LeBron’s Promise.” LeBron returning home and bringing a championship to a city and state who desperately wanted one is an incredible sports story. Despite all the pressure and expectations, LeBron came through and did what he set out to do. In sports, athletes, coaches, and owners make many…

  10. Taking Excellence for Granted

The Cleveland Cavaliers have forced a Game 7 in the NBA Finals after an impressive win last night, and another incredible performance by LeBron James. He has taken his play to another level with a second consecutive 41-point game – adding 11 assists, eight rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots. I agree with what ESPN’s broadcaster, Mike Breen, said about LeBron last night: “…the sustained excellence sometimes you take for granted…” When you take a look at LeBron’s career, he has been to 7 NBA Finals, won multiple MVP awards and…
