  1. Growing The Game

The PGA Championship is taking place right now, and a few of the top golfers will soon turn their attention to the Rio Olympics. However, despite golf returning as an Olympic sport after a very long hiatus, many of the best players are turning down the opportunity to play on the world’s stage. Rory McIlroy recently created a media stir after commenting about his decision to skip the Summer Olympics. When asked if he and others (like Jordan Spieth) were letting the game down, Rory’s response was this: “I don’t feel like…

  2. Starting Over Each Season

One of the most consistent and reliable players in the NFL is Dallas Cowboys’ tight end, Jason Witten. On and off the field, Witten leads by example in his very serious approach to being prepared for competition at a high level. Witten recently responded to what he’s working on while heading into his 14th season in the league: “Everything. Start over. I think for me even more so now… I started from scratch and watch every play then I go into the stance, catching, blocking all those things that go into what I want…

  3. “Stuff is Different Around Here”

As NFL teams begin training camp, they are all filled with hopeful anticipation for a successful new season and ultimately a Super Bowl win. However, there are always teams who have been told by management and coaches that things would change but never do. Teams like the Tennessee Titans have experienced multiple losing seasons in a row, so their optimistic expectations are not as likely. Having said that, the Titans’ new general manager, Jon Robinson, recently made this comment: “We’ve talked about change since January, and I think from an…

  4. Will the Rookies Listen?

As NFL teams begin their training camps, there is a clear distinction between rookies and veteran leaders. The older players have been around the league for a while and understand what it takes to succeed and survive in the competitive sport of football. They have already learned the dos and don’ts based on their own mistakes and experiences. Rookies excitedly come into the league with a desire to live the “NFL life,” but many have the wrong mindset – filled with cockiness and an attitude of already having things figured…

  5. Faceless Criticism

Kevin Durant made one of the biggest free-agent decisions in NBA history when he chose to leave the Thunder to join the Warriors. Any time a move with this magnitude is made, people are going to have opinions about it. Former athletes, media members, current players, and fans all have something to say about Durant, and many of them are voicing their criticism and negative feelings about the signing. However, as loud as the noise seems to be surrounding Durant, he recently made some interesting comments: “All that stuff happens on the Internet….

  6. Remember the Fundamentals

A great way some NFL players spend their summers is putting on football camps for kids in either their hometown or team’s city. This is a worthwhile opportunity to teach, share, and train young athletes in the sport they know so well. My guess is that most of these camps aren’t centered on learning complicated NFL plays, high-level techniques, or fancy defensive terminology. Rather, these professional athletes teach football fundamentals and show kids the foundation that helped them grow into high-level athletes. Just as kids need to understand the value…

  7. “I Think We’ve Suffered Long Enough”

The Jacksonville Jaguars has been one of the worst NFL teams since its inception as a franchise. Outside of a few good seasons with Mark Brunell and Tom Coughlin, being a Jags fan hasn’t been easy. Over the past three seasons, Jacksonville has tied for the NFL’s worst record at 12-36. Despite the ongoing challenges, Jags owner, Shad Khan, recently chuckled during an interview with USA TODAY Sports’ when he said, “I think we’ve suffered long enough…it’s been painful.” Although they have suffered many tough losses throughout many difficult seasons, the Jags have reason to be…

  8. Who’s Got it Better Than Us?

Michigan’s head football coach, Jim Harbaugh, continues to push the limits for attention, recruiting, and entertainment. His latest “headline maker” is a viral music video with rapper, Bailey, called Who’s Got it Better Than Us? As the football coach yells his famous saying over and over again, I must admit it’s very catchy. I also find it entertaining to see one of the top football coaches in the country appear in a rap song. I love Harbaugh’s energy, boldness, and passion, and think he’ll continue to rebuild the program. The catchphrase…

  9. The Depth Desired

Veteran running back, Arian Foster, signed with the Miami Dolphins yesterday in order for the team to have more depth in their running game. With so many injuries in the NFL, teams do their best to have multiple players at each position who they feel can contribute. As teams are preparing for training camp in a couple of weeks, coaches are looking at their rosters to determine how deep each position group looks on paper. The Dallas Cowboys seem very positive about their wide receivers, with Derek Dooley calling them…

  10. Phil’s Best Wasn’t Good Enough

He shot a final-round 65, a major-record tying 63 in the first round, and tied the previous lowest aggregate score ever at an Open Championship with 267 for the week. But it wasn’t good enough. That’s right. Despite Phil Mickelson’s tremendous play at The Open, Henrik Stenson was even better…winning the epic duel down the stretch and taking home the Claret Jug. It’s hard to believe that Phil’s performance didn’t end in victory after all he accomplished. One headline I read said, “Phil Mickelson’s Best Isn’t Good Enough in Epic Open Finale.” That…
