  1. The Committed Cubs Fans

The Chicago Cubs are still alive in the World Series after last night’s 3-2 win over the Indians, to force a Game 6 back in Cleveland. The Indians lead the series 3-2, but last night the Cubs fans regained their excitement and hope after a big win at Wrigley Field. I believe this series is as much about the fans as it is about the players on the field. Throughout the Cubs’ 108-year championship drought, players and managers have come and gone, but the fan base has stuck with them the entire…

  2. Blaming Bartman

We, as sports fans, know we are crazy! Being extremely invested in our favorite teams, we take it personally when they lose and can be quick to point blame toward the refs, coaches, and even other fans. With the Chicago Cubs competing in the World Series, one name is resurfacing – Steve Bartman. He’s the infamous Cubs fan who grabbed the foul ball that many people think prevented Moises Alou from getting a crucial out. The Cubs had a 3-0 lead at the time and were only five outs away from going to the…

  3. Ryan’s Self-Pity

The New York Jets have had a disappointing season so far, and finally won their 2nd game this past Sunday. Starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, struggled through the first six weeks while leading the league with 11 interceptions. The Jets decided to name Geno Smith their new starting QB for week 7, but that didn’t last long with Smith getting injured. Fitzpatrick ended up coming off the bench and surprisingly getting the win over the Ravens. After the game, Fitzpatrick shared his thoughts about being benched and then coming through for his team. He said, “When the owner stops believing in you…

  4. Who do I Root for?

Last night, the Cleveland Indians snagged Game 1 of the World Series in a surprising 6-0 shutout of the Chicago Cubs. There was a great atmosphere and this should end up being a fantastic series. As a sports fan, I’m a big believer in choosing one team to root for while watching a game, but in this matchup I’m very torn since they are my two favorite baseball teams. Admittedly, I’m not a die-hard baseball fan, but I like both of these teams and have solid reasons for rooting for each. My…

  5. Sports vs. Sports

Today’s sports fans have a variety of sports to choose from and numerous options to watch them. The NBA tips off tonight with a lot of hype and great story lines. I can’t wait to see Durant and the Warriors, and find out how the Spurs and Lakers play without Kobe and Duncan. The World Series starts tonight, as well, with the most intriguing match up we’ve had in quite some time. Even casual baseball fans are excited to tune in to view the Indians and Cubs. Then, of course, college football and the NFL…

  6. The Consistent Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are finally heading back to the World Series! Fans everywhere seem to be excited, nervous and intrigued. When the season began, there were great expectations for this team and they have lived up to them. At the start of the playoffs, they were the favorites to win the World Series and end their 108-year championship drought. Now they are just four wins away from making that happen.   With the pressure that comes from the media and passionate fans who have high expectations, it has been crucial for the…

  7. The Reliever

The Cleveland Indians are heading to the World Series after taking down the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 5 yesterday. They haven’t been in this position since 1997, and haven’t won the World Series in 68 years. Cleveland has a great manager, Terry Francona, and talented players across the board, but the key to their success has been their bullpen. They have relied heavily on their middle relievers and closers, with their setup man, Andrew Miller, leading the way. Miller won the ALCS MVP award for his performances against the Blue Jays, pitching…

  8. Pass Interference

One of the rules in football that is sometimes difficult for refs to determine is pass interference. You could argue it happens on every play between a wide receiver and a defensive back, but refs usually only throw the flag when it’s blatant. This past weekend there were two controversial pass interference situations. During the Giants and Ravens game, a questionable call was made against the Giants’ defense which allowed the Ravens to take the lead. The Giants still came back to win, but the concerns about the interference penalty remained. Also,…

  9. Brotherhood

This past weekend, I went to a men’s retreat in the mountains with my church. I had a wonderful time getting away and focusing on the theme of “Brotherhood.” We studied the life of David and discussed the meaning of being a true brother/friend. When thinking about brotherhood, sports teams and sports locker rooms come to mind. Each year most winning teams have an incredible bond as teammates. I think that was true for both the Cavs and Broncos who won championships this year. When I interview former athletes and ask them what they miss the…

  10. Old Romo or New Dak?

The Dallas Cowboys are 5-1 after a huge win yesterday in Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers. They continue to be led by the impressive rookie quarterback, Dak Prescott, who has been filling in for the injured Tony Romo. Playing with poise and protecting the football, the team seems to be responding well to Prescott. As a result, the Cowboys find themselves in a dilemma: who starts at quarterback when Romo is healthy? Does Dallas keep rolling with the new-look team…or do they go back to the veteran who has been “the…
