Fantasy Football…Why Wait?

Published on August 24, 2016 | By
If you scroll down ESPN.com, you will notice a headline promoting their Fantasy Football options, which reads: “Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late - Sign Up Now.”
I’ve been playing Fantasy Football for over ten years, and always look forward to renewing the league before the season starts up again. Most Fantasy Football managers can’t wait to join a league and start preparing for the draft. From my perspective, I would never want to put off signing up for a league and then miss out on the thrill and competitiveness of participating in Fantasy Football. Having said that, I must admit to procrastinating in other areas of my life. All too often I either wait until the last minute, and end up paying the price, or say I’ll take care of something tomorrow, then say the same thing again when tomorrow comes. I'm sure we can all relate to waiting “until it’s too late” for something like a Fantasy league sign-up, but what about the more important aspects of life? As followers of Jesus, are we willing to completely eliminate procrastination when it comes to serving our spouse, or spending more time with our kids, or calling our friends who need encouragement, or signing up to be a church volunteer? Also, if we are telling ourselves that one day we will take following Jesus more seriously...or that in the future we will tell our friend about the Good News...or that later on we'll take the step of faith God is clearly asking us to take, what are we waiting for? With days flying by, and our life on this earth quickly vanishing, let’s stop procrastinating and be wise about doing God’s will. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV), "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Today is the day to ask God what He's been calling us to do, what steps to take, and what areas of life procrastination needs to stop. Let’s not be like the wannabe Fantasy Football managers who “Wait Until It’s Too Late.” Instead, let’s sign up now! I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that! PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I admit I struggle with procrastination in both small and big areas of my life. Please reveal what I need to stop putting off, and trust You to help me do Your will. Thank you in advance for what You will do in and through me as I step out in faith - instead of wait. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
