  1. OBJ & the Kicking Net

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Although his New York Giants lost a tough one to the Washington Redskins (29-27) last Sunday, he played well with seven receptions for 121 yards.  Beckham’s match-up with Redskins cornerback, Josh Norman, was highly publicized going into the game. Even though Beckham had the edge on the field, Norman’s team got the win and Beckham’s sideline antics became the bigger story. When things went wrong for the Giants, Beckham was seen throwing a temper tantrum, crying, and losing the battle with a kicking net….

  2. The Stubbornness of Les Miles

Head coach, Les Miles, was recently fired by LSU despite winning a national title, two SEC championships, and 77 percent of his games. He’s been regarded as one of the top coaches in college football, but his unwillingness to change his offensive philosophy seems to be the reason LSU is moving on without him. ESPN writer, Chris Low, put it this way, “For all of Les Miles’ good qualities, the way he related to his players, the way his players swore by him and the way he made college football fun…

  3. Arnold Palmer’s Legacy

With Arnold Palmer passing away at the age of 87 over the weekend, there has been an outpouring of praise from fellow golfers and golf fans in his honor. Arnie will go down in sports history as one of the most beloved and accomplished athletes, and as a legend who will be remembered for what he did on and off the course.  One of the last times I visited my Grandpa Jack before he died, he was watching a Golf Channel documentary on Arnold Palmer. As a big fan who had opportunities to meet…

  4. The Support System in Wentzylvania

The most surprising team so far in the NFL has to be the 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles. With a new coaching staff and a rookie quarterback from North Dakota State, not many people could have imagined they would be this good so quickly. I must admit that Carson Wentz is my new favorite player, and yesterday’s huge win against Pittsburgh was incredible. Fans in “Wentzylvania” are fired up to have this impressive QB leading the way. Wentz has many of the skills needed to thrive in the NFL, such as the physical measurements…

  5. “Snap and Clear”

Jameis Winston is an up and coming young quarterback for the Tampa Bay Bucs. He still has a lot to learn before becoming one of the best in the league, but he implements an interesting strategy to help him “move on to the next play” that his quarterbacks coach, Mike Bajakian, taught him. Knowing that the NFL is fast-paced and another snap comes up quickly, Winston uses a phrase called “snap and clear” to remind himself that the last play is over. This encourages him to make sure he stays…

  6. Saban’s Message

Alabama is the top team in college football right now, but last Saturday they had a major test against a team that had beaten them two times in a row. Although they were down by three touchdowns to Ole Miss, the players rallied to overcome the deficit and win 48-43. It was fascinating to read the message Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, gave his team leading up to the game: “I asked them if they liked football. Everybody raised their hand. I said, ‘How many of you love it? How many of you really love…

  7. The Patriots’ Adversity

Are you kidding me? The New England Patriots are 2-0 and their 3rd string rookie quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, finished the game on Sunday against the Dolphins. Tom Brady is suspended, both Jimmy Garoppolo and Rob Gronkowski are injured, and yet the team just keeps on rolling. It really is remarkable! With Brady watching the games on TV for the first four weeks, he made this observation on Westwood One Radio via ESPN.com: “I was hoping to gain a little different perspective, and I think I have. It’s amazing the way our team responds to adversity and the way our coaches prepare…

  8. Indecisive Quarterback

The Washington Redskins are now 0-2 to start the season after losing to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Washington had high hopes after making the playoffs last year, but so far through two weeks, Kirk Cousins has really struggled. There are now rumblings coming from the Redskins locker room, and Mike Florio wrote on ProFootballTalk.com, “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple offensive players have begun to complain about quarterback Kirk Cousins, pointing to a lack of decisiveness, erratic play, and confusion.” As sports fans, we know those are not good characteristics…

  9. 9-7 is Not the Bar

It’s safe to say that each NFL team has goals they are trying to reach – winning a few more games than the year before…making the playoffs…or going to the Super Bowl. There are expectations and standards they want to shoot for throughout the year. Houston Texans’ head coach, Bill O’Brien, understands his team needs to take the next step and realizes the bar has been raised. This is what he said before the season started: “We understand that 9-7 is not the bar. We feel like we’ve made some really good strides here in…

  10. “A Lot Of People Wrote Me Off”

Wide receiver, Mike Wallace, had a great start to his career while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and catching long touchdowns from Ben Roethlisberger. But, over the last three seasons with the Dolphins and the Vikings, he’s had up and down success and last year was his worst in the NFL. Now playing for the Baltimore Ravens, Wallace caught a 66-yard touchdown in the first game of the season while helping them secure the win. Many people doubted he had anything left in the tank after his poor season in Minnesota (and the fact…
