The Washington Redskins are now 0-2 to start the season after losing to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Washington had high hopes after making the playoffs last year, but so far through two weeks, Kirk Cousins has really struggled. There are now rumblings coming from the Redskins locker room, and Mike Florio wrote on ProFootballTalk.com, “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple offensive players have begun to complain about quarterback Kirk Cousins, pointing to a lack of decisiveness, erratic play, and confusion.” As sports fans, we know those are not good characteristics to describe an outstanding quarterback. It’s crucial for a strong QB to make great decisions, see the field clearly, and be poised in tough situations. The other ten players are trusting the QB to read the defense and make the right play. He can’t sit back in the pocket being indecisive and confused. As I write this morning's devotional, I find myself sitting in the pocket, needing to make a wise decision with pressure all around me. I’m sure many of you can relate. We need clarity in our jobs, families, finances, and where to live. I truly believe that God doesn’t want us to stay in the pocket and be indecisive and confused. He desires to show us the way and lead us on the path He has for us. In order for us to “see the field clearly” we must submit and surrender to Jesus and truly desire to do God’s will. We can’t try to figure everything out in our own strength or wisdom but must seek the Lord with all of our hearts. The Bible provides great encouragement in Proverbs 3:5-7 (ESV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil."
Proverbs 3:5-7 (NLT) translates it this way: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil."
Today, as we wrestle with different decisions we must make, let’s trust and seek the Lord first, so He will show us the clear path. He loves us more than we can imagine, so let’s rest in that as we confidently make clear decisions according to His will. I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I’m thankful that by coming before You with faith and trust, You will show me the clear path to take. I need Your direction and guidance today as I face big decisions. I don’t want to rely solely on my own wisdom, but instead, I seek You with all of my heart. Please replace my confusion with peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
